TopSpec Launch New Linseed Mash

8th June 2018 By

New Linseed Mash from TopSpec combines the best of traditional knowledge with modern technology. Horses fed it gleam with health.

Rich in linseed and oatbran TopSpec Linseed Mash contains just 12% starch yet the scattering of flaked maize and flaked peas lends a mix-like appearance to this scrumptious, flavoursome mash.

Feeding this highly-palatable mash with an appropriate TopSpec feed balancer or supplement will result in horses shining with health. Mashes are very useful for hydrating horses and volumising their feeds.

TopSpec Linseed Mash has a good conditioning index of 13 MJ/kg, however once soaked, this figure will be reduced as fed. The formula is very high in oil and contains good fibre levels, which makes it more sympathetic to the equine digestive system than high-starch feeds.

The new Linseed Mash can be used in those circumstances where extra condition is required but it is important to remember that it is the weight of dry feed that contributes 13MJ/kg, not the weight of soaked feed.

TopSpec Linseed Mash is suitable for:

  • Horses having difficulty chewing e.g. elderly horses with dental problems.
  • Horses that need hydrating e.g. away from home/during the winter and/or after hard work.
  • Horses that need to gain weight but need a mash.
  • Situations where a diet high in Omega 3 fatty acids is needed.
  • Carrying unpalatable medication or supplements.
  • Horses with poor coats.
  • Times when owners wish to feed a warm (less than 40oC) mash.

The highly digestible fibre in this mash helps to promote the beneficial bacteria in the hindgut therefore helping to maintain a healthy digestive system.

The mash is a blend of conditioning ingredients, with an emphasis on linseed providing substantial levels of oil and protein and including the all-important muco-polysaccharides. Oatbran provides good levels of super-fibres and has been proven to be sympathetic to the horse’s digestive system.

Salt, magnesium oxide and limestone are added to the blend to provide additional sodium, magnesium and calcium.

TopSpec Linseed Mash is designed to be fed with any TopSpec feed balancer or an appropriate TopSpec supplement as it does not contain any added vitamins or trace-elements. This combination can be mixed with any other horse feed including alfalfa/grass chops.

The mash should be introduced gradually and fed according to condition, which will reflect workload and other variables. TopSpec Linseed Mash should be soaked for at least 5 minutes prior to feeding with equal parts of water to mash. Further water can be added if a more fluid consistency is preferred.

TopSpec Linseed Mash is available in 20kg – £13.95.
