On Sunday 17th July, 128 Fell ponies provided a Guard of Honour for HM The Queen at a private event held at Windsor Castle. This historic event was supported by leading equine bedding manufacturer, BEDMAX Shavings, who in 2008 received a Royal Warrant from HM The Queen which they have held ever since.
Members of the FPS and their ponies were allowed to enter the private grounds at Windsor Castle where temporary stabling had been erected. Each pony was supplied with BEDMAX Shavings to ensure utmost comfort and cleanliness in the stables ahead of, for most of them, their biggest event to date.
Led by the Fell Pony Society (FPS) Chairman, Eileen Walker, members were invited to pay tribute to their patron to celebrate her 90th birthday. Fell ponies lined the route from Windsor Castle to the sports ground as Her Majesty drove past in a carriage pulled by four Fell ponies.
Commenting on this prestigious event, Eileen Walker said: “This was a truly amazing, once in a lifetime event where the Fell ponies were the stars of the show, and brought a memorable smile to Her Majesty’s face.”
Inspecting the large number of ponies involved, HM The Queen, who is a lover of the breed herself, was delighted to learn that they had travelled the length and breadth of the UK, some even coming from overseas, to be part of this momentous event.
During the event, Carltonlima Emma, The Queen’s own Fell pony was presented with the Lownthwaite Rob Trophy for raising awareness of the Fell pony breed during the last 12 months.
Mark Harrington, Head of Sales and Distribution for BEDMAX Shavings commented: “We feel very privileged to have been part of such a historic event at Royal Windsor. The turnout of Fell ponies really was fantastic and it was an honour to provide them with BEDMAX Shavings for their Royal appointment.”
